The Queen of Christmas reigns.
Mariah Carey's iconic Christmas medley "All I Want for Christmas Is You" topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week of Dec. 23, 2023. The song had been on the Hot 100 chart for 63 weeks, according to Billboard.
It pushed Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" to the second spot after it spent the last two weeks at No. 1, topping the charts for the first time 65 years after its release, as per Billboard.
Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is the first song to top the Hot 100 in "five distinct runs on the chart," Billboard reports.
- It first topped Billboard's chart in 2019, staying at No. 1 for three weeks.
- In 2020, the song remained No. 1 for two weeks.
- In 2021, it topped the chart for three weeks.
- And in 2022, the song took the top spot for four weeks.
Though released in 1994, the song first entered Billboard's Hot 100's top 10 in December 2017 and top 5 in December 2018. After that, the song consistently took the No. 1 spot in the following years till now.
"All I Want for Christmas Is You" being a chart topper for a 13th week ties Carey with Boyz II Men as the only artists with three songs that have topped the Hot 100 for 13 or more weeks each, according to Billboard.
When the song entered the top 3 in November 2019, on its 25th anniversary, becoming the first holiday song to do so in 60 years, Carey had told USA TODAY that she would be "thrilled" if it tops the chart.
"I wanted it to feel like a classic, but I didn't know that it was going to actually become a classic," Carey had said about the song. "I say that humbly because Christmas music is something that's really special to me, so to see the song's popularity grow over the years has been something that's been kind of amazing. I couldn't have expected it."
Carey's latest feat comes just days after she wrapped her "Merry Christmas One and All!" tour at New York City's Madison Square Garden on Dec. 17.

Who wrote 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'?
Carey wrote the melody and lyrics for the Christmas song with co-writer and producer Walter Afanasieff.
"I wrote the melody and lyrics; he played and did additional writing, which is great, but it's my baby," Carey told USA TODAY in November 2019. "It was my thing."
Carey has been sued twice by songwriter Andy Stone, who goes by stage name Vince Vance, claiming that the Grammy-winning artist stole the song from him. The first lawsuit was filed in June 2022 and retracted in November 2022, while the second case was filed in November 2023 in Los Angeles. An update on the suit is not yet known and Carey has not commented on the allegations.
